Code of conduct

Mentorship only works when the person on the other side of the call feels safe being honest about what they do not know. This is what we expect from everyone here, mentor and mentee alike.

Last updated 12 August 2026

The short version

Treat the other person as a colleague you respect. Show up when you said you would, say so early when you cannot, and keep what is shared in a session inside it.

What we expect

  • Be on time, or be early about being late. A cancellation two days out is fine. Silence at the start time is not.
  • Assume good faith. A mentee asking a basic question is doing exactly what this is for. A mentor giving advice you disagree with is not attacking you.
  • Keep sessions confidential. Salary, interview processes, a difficult manager, a company that is struggling — none of it should leave the call without permission.
  • Be accurate about yourself. Claim the experience you have. A profile that overstates a role or a tenure wastes the time of everyone who books on the strength of it.
  • Stay in scope. Career advice is not legal, financial, medical or immigration advice. Point someone to a professional rather than improvising.

What is not acceptable

  • Harassment or discrimination of any kind — including on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age or appearance.
  • Sexual advances, comments about someone's appearance, or persisting with personal contact after being asked to stop.
  • Using a session to recruit, to sell, to pitch an investment, or to run a paid service off-platform under the cover of mentorship.
  • Asking a mentee to do unpaid work — a "test task", a portfolio piece, free labour of any description — as a condition of guidance.
  • Sharing anything from a session publicly without the other person's consent, including screenshots and recordings. Record nothing unless both people agree first.
  • Impersonating another person or company, or creating an account on someone else's behalf.

Reporting something

Email support@finchoq.com with the date of the session and the name of the person involved. Include as much detail as you are comfortable sharing — you will not be asked to justify why the behaviour bothered you.

Reports are read by a person, not a queue. We will not share your identity with the person reported without asking you first, and reporting someone never affects your own standing on the platform.

What happens next

Depending on what is found, the outcome can be a conversation, the withdrawal of a mentor profile from the directory, or removal of the account. Approval to mentor here is not permanent — it is reviewed, and it can be taken back.

Anything involving a threat to someone's safety is acted on immediately and without waiting for the other side of the story.
